COURSE DESCRIPTION
The race is in the park setting of Edmund Orgill Park within the mostly rural area of Millington, TN. Average water temperature for the 1.5K swim is between 65-75 degrees. The 40K BikesPlus bike course is flat and the 10K run is moderately hilly. The average high temperature for the Memphis area in late May is 82 and the average low is 65. Bring your wetsuits!
SWIM
The swim is a 1.5k swim in Casper Lake, a 45 acre lake in Edmund-Orgill Park. The triangle course is well marked with buoys and lane rope. The average water temperature is between 65 and 75 degrees. Wetsuits will be allowed if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower for age-groupers and 72 degrees or lower for professionals. Additionally, age groupers may wear a wetsuit if the water temperature is between 79 and 83 degrees, however, you will not be eligible for prizes or awards. Wetsuits will not be allowed if the water temperature is 84 degrees or higher. The water temperature will be determined by a race official at 6:30 a.m. on race day. A swim cap will be included in your race packet, and all swimmers must wear the swim cap provided by officials. The swim start is a time trial start with pros staggered every 10 seconds and age-groupers every 3 seconds. You will be lined up in the order of your race number. Collegiate and Relay team swimmers will begin with a wave start. The swim course will close one hour after the last participant starts.
BIKE
The bike course is a looped course taking you around northern Shelby County.; You will ride through a portion of Edmund Orgill Park before exiting on the east exit/entrance at Center College. You will go north on Center College Rd. to Mudville Rd., taking a right hand turn and going east to Miller Rd. You will go south on Miller to Kerrville Rosemark Rd. where you will take a right hand turn and go west on Kerrville Rosemark Rd. to Armour Rd. where you will take a left hand turn and go south on Armour.
You will ride on Armour to Pilot Dr. taking a right on Pilot; which quickly turns into Navy Rd., after a very short distance you will take a left hand turn on Sledge Rd. You will ride on Sledge Rd. south until it dead-ends into Pleasant Ridge Rd.
At Pleasant Ridge you will take a right hand turn and go west on Pleasant Ridge to Singleton Parkway where you will take a right hand turn and go north on Singleton Parkway. You will be in the right hand lane of this four-lane road and go north then pass under Paul Barrett Parkway and just before you reach the entrance of the navy Base you will take a left hand turn and go west on the access road to Raleigh Millington Rd.
You will be in the right hand lane of Raleigh Millington and take a right just before you reach the railroad tracks staying on Raleigh Millington to Navy Rd. You will go west on Navy Rd. to Bethuel Rd. and take a left on Bethuel and go north to Center College, where you will take a right hand turn and go east. Center College will make a turn and head north toward Edmund Orgill Park. You will take Center College north to Kerrville Rosemark and take a left and enter the Park on the south entrance/exit and back into the transition area.
RUN
The run course will be an out and back route with the finish running across the levee. You will leave the transition area by running toward the lake and turning right before you reach the finish line area. You will run along the transition area up the grass hill and take a left hand turn on the park road as before. You will run on the park road through the park and exit Edmund Orgill Park on Mudville Rd. and you will cross Mudville and run north on Merrell Rd. until you reach Old Tipton Rd, where you will take a right hand turn. Old Tipton Rd. will turn into Helene Rd. very quickly; you will run on Helene Rd. until the turn around at mile 3.1. You will then run back in the same direction that you ran out until you reach the levee and you will follow the music across the levee to the finish line. The water and Gatorade stations will be at miles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Mile one and five stations will be located in the same spot as will mile two and four stations. We will have a water and Gatorade station just before you reach the turn around at mile 3.1.
TRANSITION AREA
There is a large, single transition area. The transition area opens at 5:30 a.m. on race day and must be cleared of by-standers by the start of the race at 7:30 a.m. Body marking will take place at the transition area entrance. When racking your bike, use the bike rack designated for your race number and properly place your bike on the rack before and after the bike leg. There will be several staff members monitoring and directing the correct way to enter and exit the transition area for the bike and run leg. For your comfort and convenience, sparkling clean Port-O-Johns will be lining the south side of the transition area.
